UniVersus Standard Format Update!

Effective immediately, Combat Ash is banned in all formats! 

Why?

Despite having no official events for this character, we’ve received extensive feedback from players and conducted our own testing and deliberation. We believe that this character, while not unbeatable, constitutes a design that we are unhappy with and results in a level of gameplay we do not wish to encourage. Assets are created to be more powerful than foundations as a standard because players are not allowed to use them to aid in control checks. Combat Ash not only bypasses this rule, but he is also able to play assets which share no symbols with his character card. 

Why now?

We understand that some players may have been looking forward to signing up for the Standard event this weekend with Combat Ash, but knowing that this character is unhealthy for the format, we have decided to enforce this ban for the upcoming event. We apologize for the inconvenience for players, however we believe that this will make the entire event much more enjoyable.

What next?

We are currently working on a new version of the character. When initial design is finished, we will release it to the community playtest. Once we are happy with the design, we will print a new batch of this card.

What does this mean for those of you that already have a Combat Ash? Well, we will allow you to send in Combat Ash for a swap out! This means that for each Combat Ash you send in for redemption, we will send out a copy of the new version! Again, these aren’t ready yet, so please be patient, but we hope to have something shortly.
