The Guardian

Continuing the battle for the Soul Edge, this pack brings back 4 fighters from the Soul Calibur VI: Libra of Souls set with new abilities. New versions of Astaroth, Seong Mi-Na, Tira, and Voldo bring another way to play your favorite character with this Deck-Loadable Content!

Cross the path of the Hell Guardian of the Money Pit at your own risk!

Voldo’s return is accompanied by the exchange of the resource for the resource. This version of the character focuses less on providing the opponent with a difficult choice and more on zone control.

Response [Once per turn]: After an attack is played, change its zone to any other zone. If you changed it to mid, your opponent discards 1 card.

Well…This ability is incredibly strong. The mere fact that on defense you can change an attack to mid zone and full block an attack while simultaneously forcing the opponent to pay a tax on daring to play an attack. And offensive discard on a stick can help finish out a game if you can prevent them from drawing into additional cards. And even if they do, without controlled draw, the opponent’s ability to stay in the game ends up relying on an unreliable probability.

Enhance: Remove 4 foundation cards from your discard pile: Your next check to play a card gets +1. This Enhance is playable any number of times this Enhance Step.

While perhaps not amazing in the early game, it sure is nice to be able to guarantee that you will pass the check to play your next attack or block. Do note that each use of this in the same Enhance Step will require a different activation, so you cannot choose to remove 16 cards for a +4 to the check in the same Enhance. Not that that is particularly limiting, but does allow for some interaction from your opponent with cards like Werelight.

This 3-Difficulty attack rounds out the trend in this DLC pack by providing other characters a chance to get a taste of Voldo in their decks by imitating the Character Enhance ability. But for Merry Mantis, this proves doubly true. Granted, the first Enhance ability requires some other mechanism for it to work, but being able to discard a card after changing the zone is nothing to balk at. Candidates for other characters who can easily make use of this include Amy and Cammy, and it will be interesting to see if anything comes from their ability to use it.

Enhance Commit: for +2/+2 is nothing to sneeze at, honestly. Especially in a character that can proc the requirement for the ability. The list of characters inherently able to use this is actually quite long, but some of my personal favorites include: Gren, **Azwell**, Rando, *Eugenia*, D’Vorah, Woodman, and Vega. Hell Guardian also has a fantastic First Form that protects your staging area from being diminished by your opponent’s effects for the turn. At the very least, this ability will make it feel a little less bad when your opponent cancels your ability with Toguro Bros.

The Soul Calibur VI Deck-Loadable Content Pack 2 will include 4, new, playable Characters, 2 copies of an Attack for each Character, and 2 copies of a Foundation for each Character for a total of 20 foil cards. This DLC pack releases on November 6, 2020 for the UniVersus Collectible Card Game. You will be able to buy them at your Friendly Local Game Store or preorder them on our site once the previous pack releases.
