It’s time for another preview from the fifth pack in our inaugural cycle of Deck-Loadable Content! The adventures of the Bebop’s crew continue with these characters from the hit anime. Cause some grief to Spike and the rest of the crew with the incompetent Cowboy Andy; the revenge-seeking Gren; the immortal child, Wen; or Spike’s elusive dream girl, Julia.
Today’s reveal shows us the bumbling and egocentric bounty hunter with an overly strong Western motif: Andy Von De Oniyate.
Bearing a strong resemblance to Spike in both appearance and mannerisms, Andy similarly has a hand size of 7, and both the and
symbols. However, his third symbol is
and he only has 20 Vitality. Andy is more of a foil to rather than a mirror of Spike. Both Characters provide Speed and Damage bonuses and deal with facedowns, though Andy accomplishes these things in a very different way. Andy’s Enhance ability allows him to destroy a Foundation to Build the top card of his deck. This lets him activate strong Commit abilities before doing so, or use that Foundation to pass a Control Check. At the very least, he can get an additional total value of 2 distributed to checks throughout a turn. His Response works in all instances of cards adding to his Staging Area, not just in conjunction with his Enhance. With the right build, this can quickly stack up to a high amount of Speed and Damage increases on his attacks. When playing Andy off of
, consider protecting these attacks with Overly Dramatic or Never Stumbles.
Rope yourself up an errant cowpoke with Cowboy Lasso! Andy’s Attack is a Reversal and a Multiple attack. This card has overall versatility, but shines in Andy when using said Multiple ability. Being able to get two Foundations for the cost of one using Andy’s [Twice per turn] Enhance ability is not only nice, but also makes this Attack 7 Speed for 5 Damage before any other additional stat pumps. This Response is also not limited to 1/Enhance Step, so if you can find other ways to destroy your Foundations, you can keep replacing them. Look to some cards like Aval Twinblade Swordsmanship, Defeating the Tanegashima, Edenian Royalty, An Evening with Gren, Ending the Dream, or even Red Dragon Assassin for synergy plays. Another card that goes well with Cowboy Lasso is…
Shadow of a Cowboy!!! Andy’s Foundation is simple, but elegant. This card brings back memories of Glacial Assault with the continuous ability to Build the top card of your deck face down after it is destroyed. Shadow of a Cowboy’s Response also proves to protect your other Foundation tools from effects that would cause them to leave your Staging Area for any reason. With a Difficulty of 0, expect to see a lot of fake cowfolk out there chasing those bounties!
The Cowboy Bebop Deck-Loadable Content will include 4 new, playable Characters, 2 copies of an Attack for each Character, and 2 copies of a Foundation for each Character for a total of 20 foil cards. This DLC pack releases in 2020 for the UniVersus Collectible Card Game. You will be able to buy them at your Friendly Local Game Store or preorder them HERE!
