It’s time for another preview from the fifth pack in our inaugural cycle of Deck-Loadable Content! The adventures of the Bebop’s crew continue with these characters from the hit anime. Cause some grief to Spike and the rest of the crew with the incompetent Cowboy Andy; the revenge-seeking Gren; the immortal child, Wen; or Spike’s elusive dream girl, Julia.
Today, we’re giving you a preview of the Red Dragon Syndicate affiliate with a penchant for bad boys and running from her problems, Julia.
Julia is a 7-Hand-Size, 19-Vitality character utilizing the ,
, and
symbols. Julia looks for 2 things when she plays a game of UniVersus: removing a card from the game during the Enhance Step, and keyword abilities being played. Her second Response ability can fuel the first ability on it’s own, so there’s an easy lead-in to understanding how to play Julia. She also goes well with cards like Explosive Acrobatics, Let’s Party!, or even A Worthy Vessel. She also makes Big Shot action cards into more powerful offensive or defensive tools. Simple and stackable keywords like Stun may prove to be extremely useful for speeding up her journey through her own deck. With Robot Masters returning to tournament play, that card is sure to be a likely inclusion in any
Julia deck.
On the run once again from Vicious and the Red Dragon Syndicate, Julia makes a last ditch Stairwell Escape Shot. We’ve seen Attacks that can gain abilities from other cards before, but this one seems especially powerful. With the Response ability to remove a card and gain keywords (and their ratings) from it, not only does this add to the card, but Julia gets more interaction out of her own abilities, as well, when using this Response. This Attack already has a good amount of useful keywords on it, so adding more just means Julia gets to draw that many more cards during the attack. Do you like the idea of playing a Reversal with all of the keywords of Missile Launcher? Because I think that’s both a lot of fun and a little scary.
All A Dream brings a welcome High-Zone Block spam to all of its symbols, most notably the [water] symbol. There are already good options out there, but this Foundation is a bit more generic in its utility than some of those other options. The fact that you can commit it to pass a card, and then destroy it to gain Breaker to that Block or Stun to that Attack is very helpful in allowing you to keep some of your other options ready. The Deadlock Response is really great for keeping your defense high, letting you draw back up to your hand size when under siege from a sustained attack turn.
A couple of months ago I played a match against Chris Bromley, who built a Julia deck for our match. We had a lot of fun and I got to see the strength of Julia and her kit. You can find that gameplay video on our YouTube channel HERE!
The Cowboy Bebop Deck-Loadable Content will include four, new, playable Characters, two copies of an Attack for each Character, and two copies of a Foundation for each Character for a total of 20 foil cards. This DLC pack releases in 2020 for the UniVersus Collectible Card Game. You will be able to buy them at your Friendly Local Game Store or preorder them HERE!
